Swimming With Neptune

a large blue swimmer surfaces
and glides her way down towards
the middle of the lane
feeling the sweet churn of water
the flutter of her small feet

the water grows sweet and warmer
with every stroke
and the softness of it crosses
her finger tips as she glides
through the silkiness of the water
through its soft caress

she counts in her head
the numbers are growing crescendos
a swelling of orchestral music
and with each turn as she smiles
the decibles multiply,
are increasing

outside, the afternoon autumn sun peers in
its warm amber glow shimmers as it sets
the smell of the salt water pool
still clings to her skin
she notices the golden rays reflecting
chasing the playful ripples across the
water..

it is a blessing to move like sea creatures
glide through the sea
to feel free
like Neptune's daughter
to swim and strive harder

in my own way
I've always admired the little mermaid
today I am with her...
maybe
I am her
daughter.
