When I was a young boy
I hurried home from school
Rushed to the neighborhood fieldhouse
We had won the annual Christmas day tournament
not a mean feat
Fourtyeight teams from all over the city
And we won
I rushed up to see the plaque
Dandy Dolon, my name misspelled
It stay that way the whole year
The joke often told to me,
"Who is Dandy Dolon?"
The next year we repeated
Amazing two years in a row
I looked at the plaque
Randy Dolan--my name the only misspelled
Jr high basketball I was Danny Doland
The school annual I was Donny Danlan
Two days ago my Grandson was named coaches choice
PLayer of the year on his school football team
And the curse never ends--Brent Dolan
The Irish family name is Donnellan
To be American we dropped some of the letters
But not all of them people
