Sleepers

Sleepers

Behind the setting sun
Angels gaze with limpid eyes
And time fades into memory.
She rescued love from degradation,
Her soul warming to its presence,
The mistiness of winter days
Changing to the quiet melodies of spring;
She stood in the centre of storms
And became the calm of eternity,
Faces and dreams and images passing by
As if they never were or always existed.
I saw her tears and felt her sorrow
In the shadowless days of beginnings,
I held those moments and froze them
So I would never need to leave her side
And I knew that I would live and die
A million times for my hearts desire;
That is all that matters in the end.
I craved that silence so many times
There were so many things to hear
That had no meaning in this world,
So many faces invisible to mortal sight,
Loves that have come and gone again,
So many times, so many times – so many.
I know her soul very well, so deeply-
There is some beauty that life denies us
But broods in the stillness of the mind
Until an awakening comes to us at last
When we feel we may sleep forevermore.
