Great Joy



We were in the fields tending the flock by night;

When the angel of the Lord gave us all a fright.

The glory of the Lord shone around us so bright.

 

He said “Do not be afraid, for behold;

I bring to you glad tidings of great joy.

For born to you this day in the City of David

A savior… who is Christ the Lord.

And this will be a sign for you:

You will find the Babe

Wrapped in swaddling clothes

Lying in a manger.”

Then the heavens opened up and a

great multitude of heavenly host

praising God saying:

“Glory to God in the highest,

and on earth peace, good will towards men!”

 

Overwhelmed, my mind tried to understand;

we talked among ourselves on this special land;

we decide to see this miracle that is at hand.

 

Making haste and found Joseph, Mary, and the Child;

At this time when God reached out to us so mild.

Looking at His gentle face, I knew that He smiled.

 

We went forth glorifying God and praising His Holy Name;

Telling of what we saw to everyone whose path we came.

My heart is consumed by great joy, it will never be the same.
