Lost
An old dilapidated dwelling
Long abandoned
Legends about it’s history
Eerie churnings in my stomach
As I approach it
Determined to satisfy my curiosity
The front door swings easily open
A musty stale breath within
Stripped of her furnishings
Standing naked, raw, bold
Up the creaking staircase I’m drawn
To a door along the hall
Dancing fingers chill my back
As I open the door
Empty, bare, crying with sadness
I’m feeling pain and loneliness
Crayon drawings on the wall
Depicting playful joy; escape
My ears hear a faint melody
A little girls voice sings softly
Of the horror of her life
Sexual abuse and beatings
Tears burn my cheeks
Sadness overwhelms my heart
A closet door draws my attention
The song fades as I reach for the knob
Stuck; I tug harder; it flings open…
Into the bright noonday sun
I walk through this doorway
Into a world exactly different
Turning, the doorway evaporates
Staring intensely at this new world
Seeing children playing joyfully
Happiness everywhere I look
A perfect moment, captured in time
I’m now lost in the eternal forever
