Stones of home

Stumble, slip on the scree scramble along

the path covered with the stones of home.

no matter were I've roamed I've wondered

if underfoot I would feel  the stones of home

welcoming me back to warmth of family's charm.

Now I'm here it's hard to think of when I left and

the why of going, but nothing comes to mind

all I realise is the feel of hard granite underfoot

Knowing I'm back to what, hard men, hard times

cold grey days, but the stones of home remind me

this pathway is laid to carry thoughts and joy both

ways. Pick up a stone cast aside old ways

Only back the maybes are assailing me asking are

you going or staying but underfoot the stones are

whispering in my heart stay awhile we love you.

This place is in my heart the stones of home have

finally trapped me and there's no more maybes

only a certainty that this is where I will remain
