A Final Salute
About face to the west toward the falling sun
All at attention raise the twenty-one guns
Sound the trumpet, lower the flag to half mass
Gaze to the sky as the blue angels pass
Salute a fallen soldier, a hero gone home
Sing all you voices, Amazing Grace is the song
His battle is over, he fought the good fight
A final salute as his soul takes flight
A word of wisdom for those who remain
Cherish the memories, honor the name
Remember the smile, remember the heart
The spirit of a born leader right from the start
The soul of a warrior all the way until the end
Loyal to his family, his unit and his friends
Courage and compassion are the metals he wore
Love and freedom are rights he fought for
So for giving all he had to give
We give a final salute to a life well lived
