I watched it on the Animal channel
Having just returned from South Africa
Gentle beasts walking around our truck
Rhinos, elephants, Cheetahs
Standing right next to our truck
In harmony with nature
Hardly a threat to mankind
So to see these great fat hunters
Cannons with scopes exploiting a harmless elephant
Proudly taking pictures of the downed beast
It isn't hunting unless the animal is charging
and some menace to the fat gun bearer
In my youth my friend was a Cougar hunting guide
Fifty bucks he took the brave hunter on a shoot
My hunt that day was free
I was thinking how scary
Wild Cougars in the bush stalking as I stalked
Cougar tracks found the dogs were let loose
Chased the wild beast up a tree
The animal looking helpless and scared
On that limb is your trophy hunt
Look through the scope and shoot it
I handed my friend fifty bucks and entered the truck
That was not hunting it was killing a defenseless animal
For me that was the last big hunt
I rooted for the elephant but he did not even see his brave hunters
Five or six of them in backup to our brave hunter with rifles
It was a senseless trophy kill
As they took photos of the kill I was nauseated
