Never Be the Same
This is the hardest thing I have ever did
Opening my hand, gentle grip released
You are free to go, but wishing you won’t
The bell tolls in the distance five times
As the sun begins to set on this winter’s day
Wondering what the darkness holds for me
Knowing my life will never be the same
Watching you fly
Waiting until I cry
Time will heal is what they say
I just want to survive this day
Alone now, standing on the porch
If I take a breath, then it is real
Refusing to move, to recognize it is over
This has got to be a bad nightmare
My dream will not be shattered by this reality
Releasing the sadness, tears roll down my cheek
Is it really over? You are coming back. Right?!
Watching you fly
Waiting until I cry
Time will heal is what they say
I just want to survive this day
Needing a drink; I just don’t want to think
I know that we have changed over the years
I’m sorry I’m no longer what you desire
No longer do you feel our intimate fire
Life… wondering what is next… darkness comes
The bell tolls six times on this winter’s evening
My life will never be the same… never be the same
