Sense of evidence—
The medieval sense of evidence
Was so different from ours

We have logic and reason
Science and fact and smart phones

They had faith and stories told to each other
Around bread and soup after a day’s labor
That made no sense without the tales told
To comfort each other that there was another world
Where this one would make sense and all would be forgiven

Our sense of evidence leaves us numb
Jobs, cars, media, violence and politics
We have stopped telling each other stories
And just assume
That the evidence is true
