I have not already obtained,
Nor have I yet to reach my goal;
But the course that I have maintained,
Has been well for my inner soul.
God has been making me perfect,
So I continue to press on;
Knowing that He will not neglect,
And never treat me like a pawn.
But I run for winning the race,
That Jesus has already won;
And continues to shed His grace,
Till the Day of Judgment is done.
If so be that I may lay hold,
On for which also I was laid;
For doing all that I was told,
And the future not being afraid.
For I can do what Christ has done,
But cannot be called a winner,
When I reach Heaven then I won,
No longer am I a sinner.
But the one thing that I can do,
Look forward and never look back;
For the things that I have gone through,
Is knowledge I no longer lack.
Forgetting things which are behind,
Will allow you to move forward;
No longer to hold back your mind,
Ignoring gossip you have heard.
So now I can lengthen my stride,
Stretching forward what lies ahead;
Bonding tightly to Christ abide,
The sacrificial lamb that has bled.
However we should be guided,
By the things we have learned do far;
Never let us be divided,
From Jesus Christ by any scar.
