Your Cynical Perspective

I tried to see this present world
From your cynical perspective
And must confess to think like you
Would not be my objective.

You once were quite warmhearted
And played by all the rules
But then decided early on
That trusting is for fools.

And so, in essence, you became
The classic introvert
And hid yourself inside a shell
To avoid all chance of hurt.

Determined thus to live that way
You let life pass you by
But always with unfounded fear
And oft distrustful eye.

Which turned your heart to iciness
And hard as solid rock
Although it could be warmed again
If its door you would unlock.

No, I must confess to think like you
Would not be my objective
For I cannot see this present world
From your cynical perspective.
