The Mustard Seed
(Faith by hearing)

It came in the form of a spoken word
From a man with a message most had never heard
Some rejected the gift offered in love
Wrapped in human suffering sent from above
Surely he was sent with a specific cause
To break the yoke of burdensome laws
But who could accept such a ridiculous claim
Healing the sick, restoring the lame
All of humanity guilty for one man’s sin
Saved by another man born of a virgin
Dying a horrible death; that might be
But rising from the dead for all to see
It all appears to be so far fetched
Surely the truth was severely stretched
Yet some who heard were compelled to believe
Faith came by hearing and was gladly received
The gospel message accepted as truth
And instantly a return to youth
Born again, all things made new
Behold what a mustard seed can do
So small it could hardly be conceived
Unimaginable the harvest achieves
One minute conflicted, confused, and torn
But by excepting it as truth faith is born
