Crime of Foolishness
A preponderance of the evidence
Shows I was but a fool
And that for reasons now unclear
I broke most every rule.
For that, I must plead guilty
Having played the game too long
But in my heart, I always knew
When I was doing wrong.
Even so, it doesn't matter now
A sentence I must serve
And living with the guilt and shame
Is the punishment I deserve.
And that will be my cross to bear
Throughout the coming years
Because my crime of foolishness
Has caused so many tears.
