WHEN I THINK OF MOTHERHOOD

It makes me want to be a better Father
Beyond that a outstanding Grandfather
Mom's life was hard
Yes, she may have had more children
Stories untold
My Father the Alcoholic abuser
I know this well shock some
Mom had abortions
She could not welcome a child
Into the abusive relationship she was living
She was property, She begged for Divorce
And when she did he beat her up
There was No longer love in her marriage
She was property of a wine alcoholic raged man
The police would come arrest and sober him up
he would be back the next day and take it out on her
Women did not have the protection they have today
And I know someone well say what protection?
She admitted to my wife I was scheduled for abortion
In a rare moment of sobriety my Father wanted a son
Rare times of sobriety he was a different person
Had he only known the hatred I had for that man
The days I begged Jesus to make me big enough
And the day I was in youth able he ran
So yes, Mom was a saint
She was the support of the family
My Father came payday and robbed her violently
I am not making this up I saw it with my own eyes
Sadly the best years of her life married to my step dad
A tiny man yet a giant he took on my Father
Nineteen years they were married my Father disappeared
My Step dad said at the point of a revolver,
"You bother that woman or those kids next time I pull the trigger.
My Dad was six foot nine my step dad five foot four
Mom died at 54 officially Cancer but unofficially I blame my Father
When he died at 69 first I knew he was still alive
I was as eldest son named executive of his Estate
Some said he married a rich Widow with several Children
The Law in the State with no will executive eldest son
I drove four hundred miles and without looking at the numbers
Signed the Estate away. I wanted no part of him Dead or Alive
One of the girls said, "Your dad so badly wanted to see you.
We drove and parked at your front door but he was afraid.
You would have forgiven and forgot ton he was in the end clean and sober."
I told her the truth, "I would have beaten him like he did my Mother."
