Mama always loved to bake
especially around the Christmas holiday,
it truly brought me lots of joy
I would rather bake, than be at play.
Out came the ingredients
flour, eggs, sugar, and cinnamon too,
cookie cutters, rolling pin, aprons
mama and I had lots to do.
I tried to do my very best
not to get into mama's way,
she always said I looked cute
even if my hair was in disarray.
The apron was always too big
she tied it tight around my waist,
I didn't really mind though
my excitedness made my heart race.
Mama had a smile on her face
watching me look through the oven door,
patiently waiting for the cookies
so we could bake many more.
We used to decorate them
give them to family and friends,
mama and I had lots of fun
we never wanted times like this to end.
Those days are long gone now
as mama had passed away,
remembering the smile on her face
and my hair being in disarray.

I have tears in my eyes from the last quatrain.
