It was a week ago today, that New Brunswick, Canada, got walloped with a Spring snow storm. We had hurricane strength winds, white out conditions and a lot of blowing snow. We were all warned, that the blizzard was coming.
The snow started on Wednesday afternoon. It had come up from the States. The entirety of New Brunswick, was left at a standstill. There were cancellations all over the region. There were flight cancellations, traffic delays and school cancellations.
The Confederation Bridge, that leads to Prince Edward Island, was shut down, because of the hurricane force winds.
Parts of New Brunswick, had seen up to 53 centimetres of snow. Other parts of Atlantic Canada had seen about a whole Winter's worth of snow, just in one Spring day alone.
Power outages were reported and left people in the dark. The wind from the storm, remained in effect for parts of Nova Scotia and P.E.I. throughout Thursday, with wind gusts that were up to 100km/h.
The snowdrifts outside my house, were up there pretty high, but were at the very end of my driveway. The rest of the driveway, was blown clear of snow. I estimate, there was at least a four foot snowdrift at the end of the driveway. By the time the double bladed road grader went by, there was at least another three or four feet to be cleared out from the driveway. That was all gathered up off of the street. According to news and weather reports, we only ended up having about 8 centimetres of snow, in our city.
With all of the blowing snow we ended up having out of the deal, I would rather doubt, we only had 8 centimetres worth.
I was looking at the weather map on the television on that day and remember seeing the wide range of the storm. It looked like a hurricane and it had an eye.
