I sit and wonder where it will end
looking at the world this day and age..
With a perfect memory of my seventy years
Watching this life turn yet another page..
I remember back when all would lend a hand
To a soul needing one along lifes longest track..
When common sense was inbred in all that were born
And I wonder what ever went wrong as I look back..
Old time religion was alive and well back then
Regardless of who worshiped what back in the day..
When people who never had a lot but always had
Enough to help others and give a little away..
Manners and politeness were the thing back then
Respect for the aged and one and all in life..
When racist thinking never entered our minds
And conversation aliminated most daily strife..
One grew this and one grew that and sharing too
Growing up with those who were almost as if family..
Oh there were bad hings that happened at times
But almost all lived with love sincerity and simplicity..
Now within this day and age I sit and wonder so
Why have all those old school values as if died..
And still when we leave we take nothing with us
Regardless of how hard we worked and how hard we tried..
All those beautiful once life's living simple basics
Time for all to go back and have them all live again..
When every single day had its sunshine to appreciate
And we all gave thanks for both sunshine and rain..
Back when if one never had a job one didn't want one
All helping each other best as possible make it through..
Time to go back and have these times come back to life
Back when happiness peace of mind and common sense we knew..
