All things are lawful to me,
So I can do anything;
All the treasure that can be,
All the pleasure it will bring.
But not all can be helpful,
And never expedient;
Thinking it could be joyful,
To be disobedient.
For I can do anything,
But they do not edify;
No growth by what it may bring,
Causing sadness as you cry.
Let no person seek its own,
Rather for the neighborhood;
Whatever God may condone,
That is doing others good.
Eat anything that is sold,
Allowing not your conscience;
To bother you or to scold,
Rather to keep your patience.
The earth belongs to the Lord,
And all belongs onto Him;
So remain in one accord,
And you will not feel so grim.
If invited to a house,
To eat and stay overnight;
You would not sleep with their spouse,
God would never take delight.
If the meal was sacrificed,
On an altar to their god;
You should not become enticed,
In eating since it is flawed.
Why should my freedom be judged,
To give thanks to the true God;
While others have begrudged,
To whom I honor and laud.
