I just read about the store owner
Who noticed someone raiding her dumpster
Looking for food desperately hungry
So she left a note inviting them in
For a free meal a positive gesture
It reminded me of my military brothers
Peace marchers protesting? "Baby Killers!"
Safe at home because of these brave Veterans
Reminding me of my time serving in Korea
We too noticed someone rummaging trash cans
from our dumpsters so we left lunch bags on top
No longer did the cooks throw away wasted food
One day I heard a dog barking and he ran to me
I named my stray Barney and noticed the kids
Were leaving scraps and in broken English
"We well not harm your dog he is a friend"
I knew the heart at this time dogs were a food
source and these kids had learned to love Barney
And after the bagged lunches I saw them
They were children and waved as they ran
After a cocaine or marijuana drag the heroes
Would march in protest carrying signs, "Baby Killers"
We got to know these kids personally victims of war
I was invited by my house boy who became a friend
Afterall he two years younger than me to visit
the nearby orphanage we added Johnny on our basketball
teams took him with us to movies paid him a little extra
It took some courage we where alone and unarmed
It was still a time of war not yet peace
My trust in Johnny and the kids as family
We found these kids were victims of the war
Many crippled unwanted and because of war without family
They were still marching at home calling me, "Baby Killers"
The word spread, other Baby killers were going to the orphanage
Bringing with them athletic gear shovels and rakes
Airmen and kids raking the fields teaching the kids baseball
On crutches, legless, armless all victims of wartime and forgotten
We would have hoped some of those college kids
and marchers would put down the cocaine pipes andcome to help but
they too busy marching in parades and smoking dope and holding signs
"Hell no we won't go!" Avoiding the draft and checking on Canada
God bless the Veteran's for keeping this world safe for all
