Old Woman

I saw an old woman, staring

The leaves were falling softly

Falling around her feet

Falling were colors of toffee

She saw far more than most

By the time they reached her age

Time was a constant reminder

Dust settling on a page

I saw that old woman walking

Her feet moved painfully slow

She looked over at the horizon

A branch was her leaning pole

I saw the old woman grimace

As she painfully retraced steps

Always had herself a house full

Of visitors, kids and pets

Her face wrinkled with many lines

Each line a decade owned

Years of work and joy and pain

Upon her now frail bones

I saw the old woman leaning

Reaching far for one kind face

Reaching deep for understanding

And desperate to flee this place

I heard the old woman pleading

Ma’am, Thank you for being so kind

Ma’am please don’t leave me alone

She feared being left behind

She called to me, now a mere stranger

A visitor who came

I said it’s me to no one there

Just a face without a name

This old frail woman of brittle bones

Who, cringes at my touch

Is still my sweet, sweet grandmother

Who once loved me so much!

I Love You Bemo
