Baltimore is in flames
rage is out of
control
'like the flames
leaping from
building to building
man beating'
another to another..
I don't know what
is worse
the behavior on
all sides of Baltimore
or the indifference
as I walk my
own streets of
Denver.
It's easy to be
judgmental from
the safety of our
living rooms
or our car
watching youtube
thinking we can
make an informed
opinion when
we only have
half reported
truths.
Someone fired
the first shot
of the Civil War
and what happened
that day
we will never
know...
but the aftermath
is our history.
Martial law is now
struck the fated
day... and those
tanks that have been
given to schools
and sleepy towns
we've been set up,
for blood
in the streets.
So when I was walking
down the 16th street mall
and I see black and white
men fighting... and the people
just watching...
and another jump in
I snap.
Not on my watch
Not on my street
Not in my city...
Such a small spark
I don't want Denver
to be a Baltimore...
"HEY!" I bellow'
cross the road in slow motion
"HEEY!!!" everyone turns out of
their stupor
"KNOCK IT OFF!"
I am closer,
close enough to get hit
"BE THE BETTER MAN!"
I look and feel
fierce.
"WALK AWAY."
Somehow friends pull apart
and they do...
Walk away
one man wipes
the blood from
his nose...
We all walk away...
My heart is racing.
I feel like crying.
But I am glad
they stopped
hitting each other,'
and I am grateful
it wasn't me
and I am grateful
I did do something,
because evil'
stands by'
& does nothing.
I fear
this won't be
the last time...
because a time is coming...
you will know it,
'when tanks
roll our streets
and Tienanmen Square
is here on our
own soil.
