D.N.A.

You'll never lose me
Bringing half of my DNA
I gave to you
My two X chromosomes
Flowing strong in the
Chains of your lives
I'll not forget that
As you live your lives
On the upside
While I'm slowly
Holding the rope that
Goes to the bottom
Of the mountain
Your fountain of youth
Flows in your children
Who have one quarter of me
Inside of them
Baby pictures with some of
My features
Two generations later
I have known it
So I save my long hair
In a vase
In case I make
A mistake
Get Alzheimer's
And forget anywhere
When you were there
Because old minds play
Tricks
Get kicks
Of forgetting what just
Happened
Five minutes ago
Goes the flow
So remember DNA
Of May
I'm in September
Heading for December
Remembering my March
When you were young
And we had fun
Child and Mother
Half of my DNA's
There
Not smothered
In the muck and mire
Of today
So whether you like it or not
Half of my roots are in your tree
Because God wanted it that way.
