Thoughts In The Storm

The day brought thunder,
the dark clouds poured rain,
Inside where I watched
I heard myself complain.

I dread the dark sounds
of a loud thunderous roar,
The storm of white hail
makes me fear that much more.

The lightning strikes close,
a bright yellow design,
It flashes down from the sky
in a crooked sharp line.

I cannot take the suspense
of the loud moving storm,
As if an action movie
has taken on a new form.

Underneath the table
I tremble in the heat,
The lightning bolt rages
and I grab onto my feet.

Curled up in a fat ball
with my size and weight,
I scream inside my mind
where the danger is great.

It is my thoughts alone
that bring me to harm,
The storm is tremendous,
the rain causes alarm.

When the thunder passes
and the puddles dry,
The sun shines outdoors,
and fear leaves my eye.

I come from under a table
of which I tend to hide,
Take in a deep breath
with my eyes open wide.

With my hair sticking up
and my feet in a curl
I can't stand up tall
so I sit like a squirrel.

With an arch in my back
"This cannot be real!"
My fear at a twenty
made it a big deal.

I stretched myself out
as I lay on my bed,
Then counted one hundred
and cleared out my head.
