Through Thick and Thin

The anguish that I suffered with
Was hard for me to hide
Though I thought that no one knew or cared
The way I felt inside.

I'd become a troubled loner
Believing friends had turned their backs
Feeling all alone, clear thinking seemed
A strength my spirit lacked.

No longer did I trust them
Their absence told me so
The ones who were my confidants
To whom I used to go.

But I found the fault was largely mine
For the anguish I was in
When I saw that they were always there
Oh yes, through thick and thin.
