BLIND LOVE NEVER DIES

We met one time
Love was proclaimed in letters
My cousin said, "there is a girl I want you to meet!"
I was leaving the next day for the military
I stood in uniform between classes
She asked if we could be pen pals
That night I went to a Homecoming
My friend was taking me to the airport
It was a blind date for both of us
She was valedictorian of her class
We danced the night away
In boot camp I was receiving photos and letters
from two attractive girls I never had a girlfriend
I was the envy of mailcall and had seen each one time
Then I met Veronica she was real
We worked together in Central supply
Never dated as such or proclaimed more that friends
Time passed the first girl proclaimed we would get married
The second girl was waiting for me to come home
Veronica and I shared the letters
Only one day Veronica said,
"You have to tell them you see there is me."
One girl was telling me she was turning down dates
The second was making plans for our wedding
I was given orders and shipped off to Korea
A huge care package arrived in the mail
Veronica's message how much she missed me
And what a ninny I was t was more than friendship
One day the Doctor said, "You have three to five years to live."
It seemed easy===I wrote on the letters
Elvis was singing, "Return to Sender!" I wrote "Recipient deceased!"
The first wrote,"I know you are alive, we have mutual friends
Two years passed girl one wrote it on the outside of her next letter
A wedding announcement don't even think of coming
The second girl married years later stopped me in the street
She was beautiful, she circled me, "I want you to see what you missed,
Veronica reacted flew to my home to comfort my Mother
Sitting in a taxi in front of my house she
Saw me hugging my younger Sister at the front door
I was going to my family Doctor for a second opinion
I was not dying I had allergies that were killing me
It was ironic she wrote my mother saying, "I could understand if
he has something healthwise he was keeping from me. I would love
him forever but he could have told me it was for another girl.
She transfered bases, returned my letters unopened this was not blind love
I am in my seventies, married, the latest spam classmates
You have a message from an old classmate girl number one
Has married three time and cannot forget me
I suppose it is blind love never dies or the uniform
I must write and tell her I have been married 55 years
All I want to explain to Veronica she had guessed right
She would have stayed with me to the bitter end
