MY FRIEND RICHIE

Back to conquer all my fears
Is this angel I've known for many long years
He listened when I told him how my loved one died
He listened and then together we cried.

Yes, he knew me well, he knew my pain
I never thought I would smile again
But my special angel, this is true
The sun shines again because of you.

LAMENT
By Richard Deutsch

The night so clear, the clock shows one,

Moonbeams are shining in.

My thoughts are of this woman

With alabaster skin.

Who is she?  Where? And why?

She comes to share my night,

With voice so sweet, and eyes you know

That glow with heavenly light.

I reach and reach

But cannot touch

She’s smoke into the air.

I’d gladly trade my mortal days

To gently stroke her hair.

Oh, but what can’t be

Will never be,

The hurt and want so great,

Like roses facing winter

One cannot change their fate.

The poets give us hope of course,

A curse upon forlorn,

My mind should entertain kinder thoughts

Perhaps that special morn

When we’d awake – hand in hand,

Oh, the visions I’ve been seeing!

I’d softly whisper, whisper thoughts,

And thank her just for being.

(Richie wrote this long ago.  He'll write a new poem for my book. Annette)
