O Lord, you have examined me,
With Your eyes enabled to see;
You know my heart and what I think,
And I never consume strong drink.
You alone know when I sit down,
When I smile or wear a frown;
As well as when I do get up,
And what I do drink from my cup.
You read my thoughts from far away,
And would know if I go astray;
You watch me within my travels,
Through each day as it unravels.
You know I am doing my best,
And when I am able to rest;
Being familiar with my ways,
My routine throughout all my days.
Even before a single word,
For You already have heard;
Knowing all about my intent,
If I am restless or content.
You are completely around me,
Every place I want to be;
In the front also in the back,
As well as when I hit the sack.
I feel on me You lay Hand,
Knowing on solid ground I stand;
Your knowledge is beyond my grasp,
Out of reach for fingers to clasp.
It is too high for me to reach,
But remembering what You teach;
I just hope my wisdom and wit,
Will match from your Holy Spirit.
Where can I go to get away,
If I would ever disobey;
For where may I go You are there,
Because of knowing that You care.
