I had no Father so they honor me
For my Father his love was booze
For years he was hard to lose
He came once a week on Mom's payday
Beat her until she was black and blue
A young boy cried someday it well be you
So you see it was my dad who taught me to fight
I boxed in smokers faked a right
But only once was there the big dance
I was twelve and rode in the hospital with Mom
She held my hand all night long
I was sixteen when he came back again
This time it was a fight I would win
For I loaded the shotgun prepared for the end
He would never touch Sis or Mom again
But you see I loaded the shotgun with rifle bullets
I dropped the gun and raised my fist the coward ran
My Father influence was Grandpa my StepGrandpa
My uncle Ray but he lived in Spokane far away
What my Dad taught me would never be like him
This Father's day well be a big family get together
Well hug my Son my Grandkids, leave my father shoveling coal
Oh did I mention the only job he had a coal truck driver
Long ago I put my Father to rest a better man than he
