Someone Who Cares

After the reporters have left
After the headlines disappear
After the world has moved on
To the next “big disaster”
The tragedy
Remains

People are still homeless
The survivors are still sick
Many are still dying
Children are left without parents
And so many parents left with no way to care
For those who are still alive

I hear their weeping
Through the darkness
Reaching across oceans filled with their tears
I wish
With all my heart and soul
I could reach out
Wrap my arms around them
Comfort them
And remind them
There is still someone
Who cares

But I am just a single, simple man
I posses not
The ability
Or the resources
To travel
To be their by their side
What I can do
Though
Is send but these few simple words
And hope the message
Is still the same

Even though you face
Your darkest nights
Your most challenging of days
Even though at times
It looks like the rest of the world
Has forgotten your name or your face
I sit here tonight
And send your names unto Heaven
Along with my prayers
And my love

No
All those who are suffering
Both in Nepal
And other parts of this small planet
You are not alone

There still is someone who cares
And deep down I know
I do not stand
Alone
