Huck.
"World Mourns Twain."
Why the hell, are They
mourning your Name?
All you ever wanted wasn't fame
Was nothin' but a humor givin'
With some o' those chair slappin'
But It hain't your name Twain!
You must 'a' been called by sperits,
I reckon, you was
'Cause you be givin' the fuss--
You was acting like the duke:
He recites that soliloquy,
You was foretelling 'bout Halley!
You warn't like Pap,
So why go away?
Ya know I hain't caring
'Bout the ded even if they was staring.
You was my good man Jim
You hain't encouragin' me to rite--
nor read, nor bath nor sleep on a bed.
All you did was make me happy.
With Tom, my man... everytime...
Everytime I "meowed" by the window
Now who would continue the dreamin'
You stopped like a banjo chord stopped hummin'
Now there hain't gun be no Huck
You hain't be knowing no more 'bout me:
'Cause there hain't no more Tom.
Tom.
So, I sat on my rocking chair
Waited with my pipe...
"Who goes there?"
Was merely nothing: no "meows", no "croaking."
I thought I saw a straw hat,
"Well, it's nothing but an old hat!"
I was told, I am the Prince,
Never had they known I was the Pauper.
Do I look at myself in the mirror?
It was a long time ago,
Becky, Betsy, Peggy... Now, I hadn't knowed.
There's just this one woman
Who broke, this "Happy and go lucky of a heart."
I forgot my dreams, those were dreams
Nothing but fantasy
How I wish I could ride the Mississippi
Unstill-- were the waters as you get old
Collecting nothing but dusts and ashes
Knowing, you would die broken hearted.
Maybe... beyond that valley, they-- she, is there.
The little girl I held in my hand,
That broke my heart; I was late in her death bed...
"Allow me love: as I cry myself to sleep.
How broke you have left me, I felt nothing
But an empty sheet: Burning
Rapidly, with a dying flame."
How I wish I hadn't been Tom,
Rather as my Huck who stayed to those Dreams
So we'll play together: as forever it seems.
