The Good Old Country Day's

In The Good Old country Days
~*~*~*
In the good old days when being out doors was fun
living in the country was a good and simple life
before the country kids learned city ways
before a computer and games keep them inside
they forgot what great fun waited just out side
~*~*~
the woods was natures play ground for the young
where they could run free and a good place to hide
when school was over and  the day was all their own
and for a while their where bouts were unknown
A grape vine  in the woods was natures swing
it was so much fun climbing height up in a  tree
and swinging down to the ground on limb
walking on stilts was the best fun of all and cheep too
country children made their own stilts. from a forked tree limb
I know I did all those things
In the good old country days
~*~*~
Every one had a yo yo hanging from a finger to do trick with
ever one had a slingshot it was made with pride
from a forked branch  and rubber from an old inter tube.
Both girls and boys had one in their back pocket
playing fox and dog and hide go seek with friends.
Chewing rabbit tobacco  with our cousin It was all good
clean fun all these fun things never cost a dime
I know I did all these things and had a most glorious time.
in the good old  country days

(*)(*)(*)(*)
After Sunday church and a big dinner  at Grandma's
the grownup's would set out on the front porch
in the country the front porch was a very popular place
Grandma and  Grandpa had their own rocking chairs.
Now country folks and city folks are alike in one way
they like to gossip  just about ever-thing. but Mosley about
all the thing's that changing they would say you know
when I was young.we never had such goings on around here
or If we had done something like that  we wouldn't be able
to set down for a week not counting all the extra work we
had to do. But most of the time they would talk about the Lord
and the times that were changing so fast they just knew the Lord
was coming soon.and the gambler down the road who has
no food for dinner who looses all and never a winner
All that gossip was fun in a quite kind of way all our own
I know I heard it all
in the good old country days
