An Unopened Book

What My Papa Taught Me

In my life I've been taught a lot of things.
But most of the important lesson I learned,
I learned from my grandfather's wisdom.
He taught me to always stand proud and tall,
Turn down a fight unless your up against a wall.
Be honest to all; always, I mean always, tell the truth.
Lies just hurt the soul, brings pain to the heart of you.
Be kind to those who are in desperate need.
Never pass up a mouth that you can feed.
Don't go to work without a hat or your hair done.
Show love for yourself, if you don't you can't show love to anyone.
If you fall off your horse when your riding in the pasture.
Tell the horse your sorry and get on right after.
Tell your wife you love her don't leave without a kiss.
Always keep an opened mind you never know what you might miss.
Always tip your hat, remove it when you pray.
It's best to kneel down, he hears you better that way.
Do not ever miss the chance to hold your babies tight.
Try to sneak a peek on them when they are asleep at night.
It's the closest thing to seeing heaven on earth.
Be proud of their accomplishments from their birth.
Know that they make mistakes; they are learning to.
They are going to do the same things we all used to do.
Don't be afraid to cry, even the strongest men cry.
Always carry this handkerchief, when you need to wipe your eyes.
Laying there in his last moments in his bed.
The greatest lesson he taught me this is what he said.
Son I'm proud of the man you have grown to be.
Please son remember; this life is all about loving your family.
I try each day to follow the lessons he taught me.
Trying hard to grow into the man he wanted me to be.
