Lean me up against a wall

We got no money,

We got no car,

The little we got won't take us far,

But when night-time comes

Beneath twinkling stars,

You can lean me up against a wall and love me.

We got an old tin shack,

On a rocky slope,

We got a skinny horse an' a sickly goat,

but when the lightning bugs

Tell the moon to get up,

You can lean me up against a wall and love me.

We got an empty barn,

We got empty fields,

Such a terrible year, such a terrible yield,

But when the sun goes down

Hear the nightjars call,

You can lean me up against a wall and love me.
