I’m the man who played the trumpet

At the Circus elephants’ dance

Fell in love wth the lion tamer

But I didnt stand s chance

For she loved the white faced clown

In a purely platonic way

For he made no secret of the fact

He was one hundred percent gay.

The Ring Master controlled it all

As he played Bassoon in his van

Afectionatey he was christened

The oompah oompah man.

When you’re unhappy in the circus

What on earth can you do

Where can a Big Top trumpeter

Find a place to Run away to.

So I play trumpet for the elephants

In their pen by the Big Top;

I still love the Lion Tame
And I don’t know how to stop.
