she looks into the mirror
sees a circle of age reflected there
a reflection of the reflection of the mirror
shimmering within the dark iris of her eyes

the mirror is not a kind teacher

but only reflects back in deep resolute silence

from out of the corner of her eye
a violet child squints back at her intently
in the mirror she catches only a brief flash of violet
blinking
the child is gone

is she
