Reflecting


she looks into the mirror
sees a circle of age reflected there
a reflection of the reflection of the mirror
shimmering within the dark iris of her eyes

the mirror is not a kind teacher
it magnifies details she does not want to see
the mirror can not listen to her
but only reflects back in deep resolute silence

from out of the corner of her eye
a violet child squints back at her intently
in the mirror she catches only a brief flash of violet
blinking
the child is gone


is she
