I was a soccer coach many years
But I remember the very first team
Never myself played the game
So we were up in Canada on exchange
Don't get me wrong Canada are great teams
But we drew the Provencal three year unbeaten champions
The coach covered in glory ribbons
Came across the field to apologize ro me
"I understand you are a rookie coach
with a first year team playing us?
I WELL TRY TO KEEP THE SCORE DOWN."
I said, "WE did in the States win our division."
Game ended with us winning 5-2.
He was screaming at his team
We crossed the field lookng unhappy,
"How did you get your kids playing like this?"
"I told them what you told me and it ticked them off."
My Grandson is playing first year semipro hockey
The coach said if it gets to 10 goals I'll shut the scoring
With all young up from minors hockey we won 4-2.
