There are some wounds that never heal
Some betrayals so deep they can never be forgotten
no matter how hard you try
Never in my life
have I felt so sick
as when I heard of one such betrayal
The fear and agony instilled in me
by the mere mention of this monstrosity
is unlike anything I have ever felt
Never have I cried so hard
as when she told me the things
he said to her
the things he swore he'd do to her sister
if she didn't do
as he commanded
The things he said when he was finished
The insults and curses
spewing from his lips
The beatings
each blow painful and bruising
but always carefully aimed
so no passing viewer in the hall
would ever see
Would never guess
the hell she went through at home
The tears, silently shed
in the small hours of the morning
Silent to keep her sister from knowing
To protect her young mind
from the horror of each night's events
taking place while she was asleep
not ten feet away
Those silent tears, an act of unrivaled love
for never was there so merciful a gesture
In situations like this
ignorance truly must be bliss
She told me her sister went back
after they left
Back to that house.
She said she still has no idea.
Six years and she has no idea
what happened every night,
in the room they shared
while she was asleep.
