Stuck in a cage,
crowded with the other necessities.
It Beating against the door
is what's been keeping us at ease.
When we hurt it hurts more,
but when we smile its shine is greater.
We use it to our advantage,
but it will stop beating sooner or later.
So sensitive to touch,
which is why it's in a cage.
When caressed it runs smooth,
but when stabbed jumps to rage.
Other times it will slow,
losing stamina in the race.
But whether we want it or not,
time sets it back at pace.
Some deem it a beast,
while others pick it up off the floor.
I'm just stuck with this question.
Beast, what are you beating for?
