Quenched
We dip our toe's; the waves engulf our feet.
Retreat.
Right there! In the sand! A line is drawn!
Dare not to cross.
Love? No.
Sunlight dries the wet stones, creeps along the shells and embrace my breast.
The tide dispelled the line?
Swirling vortex in this salty water hastens our desire.
Retreat! Tomorrow the line will be more clear?
Not a chance,
A slender thought widens in the bay.
Easier this time,
The ocean reflecting stars that kiss my knees.
Tranquility feels new beneath the moon, yet
Your eyes take a tumultuous dive.
“Retreat,” I gasp.
Dare to cross?
Love? No!
“There is nothing to compare to this,” you say.
“There is nothing but this,” I say, “But this is not okay”.
The sea changes, makes it's advance as I bathe.
Swells partake in our flesh, unfolding the layers of blue-green foam,
We are hushed by the anchored cliffs.
Retreat has its farewell and the ocean its last laugh,
You claim me and I concede, unspoken fire
Burns the gray wood as we cross the threshold together.
The line hides at the seabed oblivious to shame,
We glide to the ridge, undaunted by the current
And our fatal secret is revealed in the clay,
But you will crave more.
