Grass-stained warrior woman,
You blossom under his gaze.
Untrimmed, you may just wilt.
Grass-stained warrior woman,
You blossom under his gaze.
Untrimmed, you may just wilt.
Grass blades fisted in hand, Oh warrior woman;
Their roots are pulled from the cool hardness
Of your bed, your flowering bed.
And your pillow bears the same
Stains of sweetgrass that lie with you
Under the gentle warmth of sun.
You are the bittersweet reflection of Narcissus
In the pools of Apollo's eye that spill over;
Tears for the woman he could not catch.
And they match you beautifully,
Green with envious longing,
A slithering snake amidst your garden of grass.
Grass blades fisted in hand, Oh warrior woman;
Their roots are pulled from the cool hardness
Of your bed, your flowering bed.
And your pillow bears the same
Stains of sweetgrass that lie with you
Under the gentle warmth of sun.
You are the bittersweet reflection of Narcissus
In the pools of Apollo's eye that spill over;
Tears for the woman he could not catch.
And they match you beautifully,
Green with envious longing,
A slithering snake amidst your garden of grass.
