The day that love died

Smiles became fewer, love became scarce,

I no longer found myself touching your hair,

The glow had subsided, I felt my heart cry,

The day that I lost you, the day that love died.

I wonder the chambers of what might have been,

I can still hear the echoes of hundreds of things,

Of how we would love until world's without end,

Never dreaming or believing it was all just pretend.

It was real for a while, there's no doubt of that,

It was real when I loved you all night in the back,

Of a Buick I bought and then sold on for scrap,

It was real oh so real, I can't contradict that.

But now all remains is a fading pastiche,

A parody of kisses of love out of reach,

A promise forsaken, a lifetime denied,

The day that I lost you, the day that love died.
