every morning on my way to work
I pass by the terracotta pot of serenita purple
sitting on my front porch
its verdant leaves have shifted hue to a deep green
with two blooms remaining
tipping over as they ask for a drink
I am their deity
and each time they pray for rain
I never deliver
I have the watering can
the hose
even a measuring cup
every tool and every means to provide
but I never do
rushing out of the door just days later
I notice the decaying biofilm covered life
that once was full and fragrant
they have given up
succumbed to my neglect
I have to stop doing this
