if i say i want to die,
you should believe it.
look what happened last time.
you found me in the shadows,
holding hands with my savior.
he was leading me away to a place far away,
beautiful and full of roses,
and you snatched me out of his clammy hands
and said, "i can't believe you're putting me through this."
he was the devil and i was paying the price for my sins.
thou shall not kill.
if i say i want to leave,
you should put on your shoes and follow me.
once i'm gone, i'm not coming back.
you found me in the arms of a stranger,
standing in a dimly lit corner
somewhere far away from this god forsaken town.
he was chatting me up,
deciding i was good enough
and you grabbed me by the arm and said, "let's go."
he was the devil and i was practicing sin like you used to.
thou shall not commit adultery.
if i say i want to fly,
you should chain me to the floor.
if not, i will go to the top of the highest building
and leap off as gracefully as a ballerina.
you found me,
dancing along the edge of the roof top
with my hair down and my dress flying in the breeze.
i was standing in the last rays of sunlight
and i could hear my lover calling me,
begging me to join him in an eternal dance in the sky
and you could not stop me.
i dropped my gaze to you and blew a kiss.
you cried out to me, "get down from there right this instant."
but you were too late.
i leaned forward and plummeted down with a crack and a splat
and you stood, horrified, over my lifeless body.
you could've swore you'd seen me smiling
and from the corner of your eye, there i was.
perfectly fine, smiling.
dancing with the shadow of the man you'd kept me from.
my lover.
he was the devil and i was staying with him forever
and there was nothing you could do to stop me.
