Before I was a king
Before I was a slave
The world was so perfect
And much more safe
But then I began to wonder
What it felt like to rule
To have the world in your hand
And the streets; your footstool
And whenoffered the crown
I reached out and took it
I thought I would stay good
And never overlook it
But all became much louder
When I held the throne
And I became so scared
Of the place that I called home
I think that they saw it
They saw all my fear
They saw it as a weakness
And they attacked me here
I attacked in defense
For what else can you do
When all of the world
Is attacking you?
They wanted so much more
Than they thought I could give
They had found a new king
Therefore I couldn't live
I fought back with force
That was so much greater than theirs
Protecting all the world
Was the very least of my cares
I wanted my life
I didn't want the throne
But how could I run
When they surrounded my home?
It was a revolution
And I sorely won
But nothing was the same
When all was said and done
Men cowered down
And trembled at my stare
Everyone remembered
The blood that was spilt there
I guess they should fear me
Because I fear myself
I am a lowly king
Of deceitfulness and stealth
But I am just a coward
An arrogant, naive one
I spilled their blood as quickly
As the war begun
Now I cry each night
For the lives I stole in war
They didn't know how to fight
And I; what to fight for
For who can rule all people
When each person rules himself?
What man could ever rule
When he's scared of himself?
A man who is a coward
Should not be a king
But no man isn't a coward
When they become a king
I am the king of the war
So each death is my fault
I am every arrow
Every sword and each assault
But I want nothing more
Of all the pain I hold
The king of war is always
The king of dark and cold
