On The First of November

sunshine
you own me
and fill each trembling scarlet clinging leaf
with a dancing joy

we both are living testaments
survivors
of yesterday's storms

and though we may fall
one day
we will both live to rise
and meet yet a younger day
and a newer season
where once again
we lift ourselves to join
the hopeful clouds

where surely the winds will carry us.
