This Can't Be Happening Here!
Trump with his dog and pony show
And his loose-cannon campaigning
At first struck many people
As slightly entertaining.
But "entertaining" is not the word;
Now his attacks are frightening.
The potency of the destructiveness
Of his harsh rhetoric is heightening.
An expert of the dark power of words,
Trump loves to condemn
And blame groups for America's troubles--
To make it "us" against "them."
I hate to use the F-word here,
But doesn't it really seem
That Trump has the trappings of a fascist leader
Of a totalitarian regime?
His talk of condoning torture,
Targeting certain groups,
Banning Muslims from coming here,
Surveilling people, and--oops,
I almost forgot--fueling people's
Anxiety and fear
By asking them to tell on their neighbors:
Should that be happening here?
The dark days of the 30's and 40's--
A time when things got scary--
Must never be repeated. Thus,
We have cause to be wary.
Granted, there are many issues
With which we have to deal--
Issues we must approach WITHOUT
Xenophobic zeal.
There's very little factual basis
To most of what Trump says.
How could anyone think that he
Has what it takes to be pres?
He is a master of bombastic nonsense;
We can't deny it.
What amazes me is how
So many people can buy it!
"Something bad is happening," he says
As he goes out on a limb.
Something bad IS happening,
But signs are pointing at him.
