Several on this site, I have never meet in person. but consider friends.
In Terry's case would like to recommend one of his writings as a must read,
titled: "In the Arms of our Angels." It brought back memories. My
military career was not perfect. Nineteen far from home in Korea I had made a
pledge from my youth. I had an obligation to protect children. I worked as a
emergency room medic. We were short ambulance techs. Word came in an accident
off base. A child had been hit by one of our vehicles. The child lay in the street
but none of our vehicles in sight. My orders were clear. I could only exam the
boy. Concussion he grossly overweight had in reality not been hit, but had fallen
down nearby stairs. He was dying, against orders and outranking for that day the ambulance
driver I took charge against advice took him in to our Osan Hospital. A court martial,
It cost me one stripe and no longer on ambulance rides. The boy was overweight because
of tape worms.

Four months later he was a different boy. Family came to thank me
in word nurses had to interpret the boy wanted me to visit his school.

in my early days growing up. poverty, I had seen anything like this. War children in the
orphanage. Injured sans legs, arms future. I brought with me friends. Air Force
buddies. Their hearts bled like mine. The word spread. Airman came with tools to cleanup
the school grounds. The kids who could helped. We made a ball field and helped them
learn games like basketball, baseball, soccer. The sad looks became ear to ear smiles.

It was a routine R and R ambulance transfer of a patient to Seoul. I knew nothing of Korean
politics. The Korean leader had advocated. Rioters were in the street. Most were mixed
if we were the enemy or not. On each door of our harassed ambulance were young children,
We heard in broken English, "Leave the GI's alone. They are our friends. What does around
comes around. KIds at night would dig through our garbage for food. We made a deal
with the cooks. Bagged lunch sacks we would leave outside with goodies.
