'' That Spirit We All Have Within ''
As we enter what is a brand new year,
For some it's joy for others a tear,
Don't let the past spoil future good cheer,
Today let your new life begin.
Are you half empty or are you half full?
Do you pick yourself up when you fall from the stool?
In times of trouble do you try to remain cool?
Or would you rather give in.
When disasters strike do you just walk away,
Then hide yourself from any affray,
If you could help others would you stay?
Remember failure is not a sin.
Marital breakdowns or the loss of employment,
Both events can be very poignant,
Do you let it spoil life's enjoyment?
Or do you maintain that grin.
Bereavement I'm afraid is a fact of life,
Do you wallow in pity and live with the strife,
Throughout society depression is rife,
But it's a battle anyone can win.
Taking alcohol or drugs you'll find doesn't cure,
Though as a solution it has a certain allure,
Setbacks in life you must learn to endure,
You won't find it in a spliff or a gin.
Do you constantly moan that it's always you?
Beset by problems what can I do?
By fighting back you can see it through,
Confine your troubles to the bin.
When the fight back starts you will feel the power,
No more will you feel the need to cower,
Soon you will climb to the top of life's tower,
Problems you will take on the chin.
The ability to counter is inside us all,
If you're willing it will answer your call,
You will laugh at yourself the next time you fall,
